About Jeroen Luijt
A still life photographer carrying a four-hundred-year-old tradition into the language of light and lens.
The Story
From a museum hush to a working studio.
I grew up an hour from the Rijksmuseum, returning again and again to the still life galleries. I was transfixed not by what the Masters painted, but by how light seemed to live inside the canvas — a peeled lemon, a tarnished goblet, a single tulip past its prime.
For more than two decades I have chased that same light with a camera. My studio is deliberately spare: one window, deep shadow, and arrangements built by hand over many days. Nothing is composited or generated; every photograph is a real tableau, lit and captured in-camera.
My work is held in private collections across Europe and North America, and I create a small number of commissions each year for collectors who want a piece made for their own table.
