The Photographer
I am Jeroen Luijt, a still life photographer working from the Netherlands. My practice began with a simple obsession: to recreate the breathing, luminous darkness of the Old Dutch Masters with a camera rather than a brush.
Each tableau is built by hand over days — fruit, glass, metal and flora arranged until a single shaft of light tells the whole story. The result is photo art that feels painted, yet utterly real.

“It hangs beside a seventeenth-century painting and holds its own completely. People cannot believe it is a photograph.”

“Jeroen understands the Dutch still life better than anyone working in photography today. A true craftsman.”
Thomas Hartley — Gallery Director, London

“The commission process was a joy. The final piece is the centrepiece of our dining room and a future heirloom.”
